Court postpones Anglo-Leasing case as Defense team skips hearing

Key suspects in the Anglo-Leasing scandal were today excused by a Nairobi court after the defense team failed to appear for the hearing. – By Meshack Makau.

Milimani chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku scheduled tomorrow for the hearing with or without the senior council.

The scandal involves two former permanent secretaries Joseph Magari (Finance), David Munya Mwangi (Office of the President) and former senior officer in the debt management department David Onyonka.

Also charged is Chamanlal Vrajlal Kimani (deceased) and his two sons Rashmi Chamanlal and Deepak Kumar.

Chamanlal and his sons were charged of conspiring to defraud the government Ksh. 10 billion purporting to supply modern security equipment to the Kenya police.

The Kamanis were also accused of receiving in their foreign accounts Sh135 million from the Ministry of Finance to fund a project known as Modernization of Police Security Equipment and Accessories of Kenya Police Department.

The accused received the money through their Switzerland Bank Account operated in the name of Apex Finance International Corporation.
The investigating officer will tomorrow appear before court as the last witness to testify against the suspects.
