Court Postpones Case of Man Accused of Fraudulent Registration to May 22, 2025

A case involving an alleged Somali National accused of obtaining registration through false pretenses has been adjourned to May 22, 2025.

The adjournment came after the prosecution informed the Kahawa Law Courts that they had not yet provided all necessary documents to the accused, Abdirizak Mohammed Hassan.

“We are yet to supply some statements to the defense, which were recorded in Mandera. We therefore request an adjournment until May 22 to furnish them,” the prosecution stated.

Abdirizak faces charges of fraudulently acquiring an identity card by using the personal information of an unsuspecting couple.

The court granted the prosecution additional time to submit the remaining documents. State prosecutor Kennedy Kamau requested the delay, noting that some witness statements from Mandera were still pending.

“Your honor, we have not yet supplied the defense with certain witness statements from Mandera. We ask the court to adjourn the matter until next week,” Kamau told the court.

He added that all other relevant documents had been supplied, and the remaining statements would be delivered by next week. Kamau also requested a mention date to confirm compliance.

Magistrate Gideon Kiage allowed the adjournment, noting that while some documents had been served, the case could not proceed without the remaining materials.

“The adjournment is hereby granted to allow the prosecution time to serve the defense with the outstanding witness statements,” ruled Magistrate Kiage.
