Court Suspends Chiloba Censure To Six TV Stations Over Maandamano Coverage

High Court suspends Communication Authority decision to censure six TV stations for covering opposition demos last Monday.

The Court noted that the case filed by Katiba Institute, Law Society of Kenya and journalist unions raises weighty issues.

Katiba institute claims that Ezra Chiloba, went overboard by unconstitutionally, illegally and Unprocedurally censured six TV stations namely, Citizen TV, NTV, K24, TV47 and Ebru TV for their coverage of opposition demonstration on March 20, 2023.

The petitioner further said that Chiloba violated the rules of natural Justice under Article 47 and 50. This according to Katiba Institute is because none of the TV stations was heard on the decision to censure them.

Further, the petitioner said that no reasons informed the decision because the Authority refused to supply the media houses with copies of the letters it alleged to have sent to the six media houses and with minutes or recordings of the Authority’s meeting.
