Court Thwarts Okiya Omtatah Bid To Stop Ruto’s Finance Bill

For the second time, the High Court has declined to temporarily suspend the Finance Bill, which President William Ruto signed into law this morning.

On Monday, June 26, Justice Mugure Thande of the Milimani Constitutional and Human Rights Division dismissed Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah’s appeal for temporary orders blocking the law’s implementation.

Omtatah had asked the court to halt the law’s execution until the constitutional petition challenging the law’s enactment process is heard and determined.

“l urge the court to issue the conservatory orders suspending the implementation of the law. The ground has shifted so much as some of the orders have since been overtaken by events,” Omtatah informed the Judge.

Asking the Judge to grant the interim orders against the implementation of the act, Omtatah protested that since filing the case on May 31 this year, he and his co-petitioners were yet to get the court’s audience.
