Court Upholds Mike Sonko Impeachment

A three judge bench has upheld the impeachment of former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko.

In a lengthy delivery of the judgement Justice Said Chitembwe said the impeachment process was lawful, poking holes into the several petitions.

The governor went to court to have his impeachment overturned, claiming that it was both procedurally and constitutionally flawed.

A merciless Senate sent the flashy Governor home after voting him out on four counts.

In total, 27 senators voted in favor of the accusations, while 16 voted against them.

Two senators, including Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja, opted to abstain from voting.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Sonko had a falling out over the decision to delegate critical duties to the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

He is presently facing a court prosecution for corruption.
