Courtinho Form Impresses Liverpool Legend

Philippe Coutinho’s effort during Aston Villa’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United at Villa Park on Wednesday night has been praised by Liverpool veteran Jamie Carragher.

Despite his erratic display, the Brazil international scored one goal and assisted on two others, Villa were unable to win the game.

Coutinho joined Villa on loan from Barcelona in January, causing shockwaves throughout the Premier League, and he hasn’t disappointed thus far.

He equalized for Villa against Leeds with a pinpoint strike into Illan Meslier’s far corner, which came after Dan James had put Leeds ahead inside the first 10 minutes of the game.

As halftime approached, Coutinho assisted Jacob Ramsey for both of his goals, putting Villa in a comfortable 3-1 lead, but Wales international James equalized with a goal of his own to bring Marcelo Bielsa’s side level.

On the hour mark, Diego Llorente equalized for Leeds, completing the scoring.

Coutinho’s individual performance against Leeds last night, however, impressed former Liverpool player Carragher.

“Coutinho, wow!” he said on Twitter.

The Brazil maestro was forced to leave the game late in the second half, but Villa manager Steven Gerrard is hopeful that he will be fit and available to face Newcastle United at the weekend.
