Kenya’s COVID-19 situation that was rumoured to be slowing down, has so far reached the 90,000 mark. The situation has continued to spread fears of a possible lock down during the festivities. – By Gerald Gekara.
In just 24 hours, 644 people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 6,811. The total caseload now registers at 90,305.
The fatalities have also experienced a sharp increase, after 16 people died from the virus. This raises the death toll to 1,568.
1,060 patients have recovered from the disease, 910 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 150 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 71,254.
According to the Ministry of Health, there are 994 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide.
7,844 positive patients have been put on Home Based Isolation and Care while 55 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Further more, 27 of the ICU patients, are on ventilatory support, and 27 on supplemental oxygen. 1 is on observation.
Kenya is currently setting the stage for being among the first countries in Africa to recieve the COVID-19 vaccine. The only other state is South Africa.
The priority is due to the fact that Kenya and South Africa had participated in the global vaccine trials by Oxford and Astra Zeneca.
