COVID-19: Kenya records highest single day cases, as Government steps up on testing backlog

So far 130,498 samples have been tested for Coronavirus. An additional 10 patients succumbed to the disease bringing total fatalities to 117. 106 more patients were discharged with total recoveries now standing at 1,459.

The distribution of the cases in the counties was as follows:

Nairobi led with 136 cases, while Mombasa recorded 32 cases, with Kajiado ranking third with 13 and Busia recorded 5 cases. Nakuru and Machakos had 4 cases, while Garissa and Isiolo had 3. Taita, and Kitui had (2) while, Migori, Narok, Embu had one case each.

In Nairobi the cases were reported in; Dagoretti North (26), Westlands (25), Kamukunji (17), Kibra (13), Makadara (11), Starehe (8), Langata (9), Kasarani (6), Embakasi East (4), Embakasi North (3), Ruaraka (3) and Embakasi Central (1).

In Mombasa, Mvita had (20), Likoni and Kisauni (5) each, and Changamwe (2).

198 of the new cases are Kenyans while 15 are foreigners. 152 were male and 62 females. The youngest is a 1-year-old and the oldest is aged 73.

The situation has been feared to be worse, as Health CAS Rashid Aman confirmed that most of the new cases tested, were actually from the Ministry’s backlog that totals over 6,000.
