The government’s war on illicit alcohol and drug trafficking gained momentum in Kisii County after a successful raid by police officers from Sameta Sub-County earlier today.
The operation, which took place at Itumbe Stage, was led by Sub-County Police Commander Madam Lucy Mugambi, SP.
Officers seized a staggering 481 litres of chang’aa, several items suspected to be linked to criminal activities, and a stash of a substance believed to be cannabis sativa.
In a startling twist, police also recovered two imitation FN rifles and a toy pistol—raising concerns over possible links to other criminal enterprises operating under the cover of local brew dens.

One suspect was arrested during the raid and is currently assisting police with ongoing investigations. All seized items remain in police custody.
“This operation is part of a broader nationwide crackdown ordered by the National Police Service to dismantle illegal alcohol and drug networks,” said SP Mugambi.
“We’re not just targeting brewers—we’re rooting out the entire criminal infrastructure behind these substances.”
The National Police Service (NPS) reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and safety by eliminating the production, distribution, and sale of illegal brews and drugs.
The raid comes amid increased government pressure to restore order in regions grappling with the negative social and economic effects of illicit substances.
Residents have lauded the police action and called for sustained efforts to ensure long-term impact.
