Crackdown on Illicit Brews Intensifies in Homa Bay

Authorities have stepped up the war against illicit alcohol in Homa Bay after a multi-agency team carried out a major operation in the Maguti area along the shores of Lake Victoria.

The raid, conducted by officers from Kendubay Police Station in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers, targeted illegal brewing activities that have posed health and security risks in the region.

During the operation, security teams destroyed more than 12,000 litres of kangara â€” a local illicit brew — along with assorted equipment used in the production of the illegal spirits.

Officials confirmed that the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to stamp out the production and sale of illicit alcohol, which has been linked to rising cases of addiction, health complications, and insecurity in parts of the county.

The National Police Service commended the officers and partner agencies for their vigilance and commitment, noting that the campaign against illicit brews will be sustained to safeguard public health and protect communities.
