Creators Urged to Embrace AI to Enhance Content and Boost Engagement

University of Nairobi hosts second International Creator Day with focus on digital innovation.

Content creators have been urged to adopt emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), to improve the quality, relevance, and engagement of their work. The call was made during this year’s International Creator Day held at the University of Nairobi, where a vibrant community of creatives, including writers, vloggers, photographers, designers, and musicians, gathered alongside tech companies and brand partners to celebrate the role of creators in shaping society.

Themed “Creator Tech Tools”, the second edition of the annual event featured exhibitions and a day-long conference that explored digital trends, challenges, and monetisation opportunities. Speakers emphasized the transformative potential of AI and Machine Learning in helping creators develop timely, cost-effective content tailored to their audiences.

Microsoft Africa Development Centre’s Head of Marketing, Tabbz Maina, challenged creators to stay ahead by upskilling and utilizing AI tools. She revealed that Microsoft plans to train over one million Kenyans in AI to empower a tech-savvy generation capable of leveraging digital platforms for economic growth.

“AI is the game changer in everything that we do,” said Maina. “Those who fail to adapt risk being left behind.”

Meta’s Global Partnerships Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, Rofhiwa Maneta, echoed these sentiments, urging creatives to produce original, high-quality content to benefit from Meta’s updated monetisation programme. Unlike before, the new system now rewards all content types—including text, photos, and stories, based on performance metrics such as views and engagement, rather than just video length or livestream activity.

“We’re recognizing all forms of creativity and rewarding authenticity and interaction,” said Maneta. “This ensures that all creators, regardless of content style, can earn from their work.”

Organized in collaboration with major tech firms and distribution platforms, the event also featured a tech exhibition showcasing the latest tools for content production, distribution, and management. Safaricom led the sponsorship as the gold partner, underscoring the company’s commitment to nurturing innovation in the digital economy.

Teki CEO Martin Muli described the event as a platform to connect creators with industry leaders, brands, and cutting-edge tools. “We’re in the AI era, and this event introduced creators to the technologies driving the future of content,” Muli said.

Safaricom’s Director of Brand and Marketing, Zizwe Awuor Vundla, emphasized the cultural importance of creativity, noting, “This day celebrates the powerful role of creators in shaping public opinion and inspiring society.”

International Creator Day is a global initiative dedicated to acknowledging the contributions of social media creators and fostering innovation in the content creation industry.
