CS Duale Reaffirms Support for KMTC Amid Calls for Quality Courses

Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has expressed unwavering support for the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), emphasizing the institution’s vital role in building Kenya’s health workforce.

During the opening of the 8th Biennial KMTC Scientific Conference at the college’s headquarters, Hon. Duale underscored the importance of maintaining high standards in health training and cautioned against unchecked expansion of health-related courses across the country.

“KMTC must remain a centre of excellence, producing competent and service-ready professionals,” Hon. Duale stated. “We will not offer credentials without competence. It is vital that all training programs align with the evolving needs of our public health sector.”

Themed “Advancing Equity in a Rapidly Changing Environment,” the conference brought together stakeholders from health, academia, and research institutions. It provided a platform to share innovations and strategies aimed at improving health training and service delivery, crucial steps toward Kenya’s goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

This visit marked Hon. Duale’s first since his appointment as Health CS. During a consultative meeting with KMTC’s Board and senior management, he called for increased accountability, transparency, and integrity in health worker training. He urged the college to regularly review and update courses to meet national health priorities effectively.

In addition, Hon. Duale flagged off five double-cabin vehicles to support KMTC campuses. The vehicles are expected to improve students’ access to clinical sites, strengthen supervision, and bolster community-based health services.

The CS was hosted by KMTC Board Chairperson Mr. Joseph Cheruiyot, CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch, and Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth.
