The Regional Centre of Excellence (RCoE)
for Biodiversity, Forests, and Seascape Ecosystems Management is being
officially opened at the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for
Development (RCMRD) in Kasarani, Nairobi County, under the direction of Cabinet
Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya.
The Centre will promote information
exchange and educated decision-making about Sub-Saharan Africa’s security
threats, population increase, environmental degradation, and technological
advancements.
The
Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), World Agroforestry (ICRAF),
RCMRD, and the European Union collaborate to promote RCoEs for the application
of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI).
Emmanuel Nkurunziza, the director general
of RCMRD, Dr. Peter Minang, the director of CIFOR for Africa and global
coordinator, Ms. Myra Bernadi, the representative of the European Union
delegation to Kenya, and Mr. Kaddu Sebunya, the CEO of the African Wildlife
Foundation are among the dignitaries attending the official launch.
The Cabinet Secretary is accompanied by
Director General (NEMA) Mr Mamo B Mamo and Ag Conservation Secretary Mr. George
Tarus.
