CS Hassan Joho condoles with families of Kwale plane crash victims

Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Ali Hassan Joho has condoled with the families and friends of plane crash victims who lost their lives in an air accident on Tuesday morning, October 28, 2025, in the Tsimba area, Kwale County.

The ill-fated aircraft carrying 12 passengers crashed while en route from Diani to Kichwa Tembo. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the crash occurred at around 8:30 am.

”I extend my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the families, relatives and friends of the people affected by the tragic aircraft accident in Kwale today. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May the Almighty God grant you the strength and solace to bear the loss. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” Joho said in a statement posted on X on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

On their part, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the development, adding that government agencies were dispatched to offer the necessary support and rescue operations.

“Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) wishes to confirm that an aircraft registration number 5Y-CCA, on its way from Diani to Kichwa Tembo, crashed at 0530Z,” read the statement.

According to KCAA, there were 12 people on board at the time of the crash. “The aircraft had 12 persons on board. Government agencies are already on site to establish the cause of the accident and its impact,” the authority added.

However, details about casualties or survivors are yet to be confirmed. The crash has drawn concern across the country, with many Kenyans expressing sympathy for those affected and calling for a speedy investigation into the cause of the tragedy.

Meanwhile, the KCAA added that more information will be shared once the investigations progress and families of those on board are notified.

The Diani–Kichwa Tembo route is a popular connection between the coastal and tourism regions of Kenya, often used by both local and international travellers.
