CS Joho denies drug trafficking links, maintains he’s legally in office

The Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy, Ali Hassan Joho has challenged the move by human rights group seeking to produce evidence that he deals in drug trafficking.

Hon. Ali Hassan Joho in response to the petition challenging his appointment as a CS, denied the allegations levelled against him saying the petitioners cannot substantiate the allegations.

“The issue of drug trafficking is bare, unsubstantiated and is so generalized that it is not possible for any party to adequately respond to the same,” Joho stated.

The Human Rights Commission filed a case in court claiming Joho was illegally appointed into the office.

The commission sought orders to have his appointment revoked and a fresh process commenced.

The commission in its petition claimed that the Committee on Appointments disregarded several memorandums allegedly containing evidence of Joho’s unsuitability to hold the position.

The CEO, Caleb Ngwena claimed that Joho lacked the requisite academic qualifications to hold office and also his alleged deals on drug trafficking as per the dossier tabled in Parliament by the late George Saitoti, proved him unfit to hold public office.

The court will issue directions of the case on October 17, 2024.
