Ambassador Monica Juma, the Cabinet Secretary for Energy, has issued a warning to Ministry staff, stating that they must work to reduce power costs or face dire consequences.
She noted that there has been a lot of laxity in the recent past and stated that accountability will be crucial going forward.
“A lot of work remains to be done to restore the KPLC into an operationally efficient, financially stable utility. Work is going on across its entire service chain – looking at its business processes and more importantly demanding accountability for responsibilities of every staff and or supervisor.”
During the media briefing, the CS stressed that individuals who do not carry out their mandates will face consequences.
“The sector is at a crossroads, and the only option is to turn it around.” And it is for this reason that I have emphasized, and desire to reiterate, that these reforms are irreversible,” she stated.
After a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta, power costs have come down by 25 percent, as reflected by various data analysed by Uzalendo News.
The Kenya Association of Manufacturers lauded this move as production costs reduced by 10 Percent.
The CS has promised that the reforms will drastically reduce costs to ease the cost of living.
