Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has said that several suspects are set to be arraigned in connection with the raid on Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family farm in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
While describing the March 27th raid as a “serious crime,” Prof. Kindiki stated that investigations were ongoing and that suspects would be presented in court “soon.”
Speaking on Wednesday during a press briefing on the State of Security in the country six months after he assumed office, the Interior Secretary admitted that the investigation into the attack had taken a long time, blaming it on the politicization of the matter.
“What happened in Northlands is a serious crime. Yes, we have undertaken investigations and we will be arraigning some suspects very soon,” said Kindiki.
“It has taken a lot of time because of politicization around it. And I have said to you Kenyans, we don’t want to politicize national security,” he added.
“Some of the political leaders who have been fanning violent attacks on property and police officers in Kericho and Bomet are Kenya Kwanza politicians and they will have to be arrested once we conclude investigations,” said Kindiki.
Over 1,500 Dorper sheep were stolen from the Kenyatta family’s Northlands farm by a gang of suspected hired goons.
Armed with machetes and axes, the goons who broke in through the fence went on a destruction spree, felling trees and setting part of the farm on fire.
The raid on the former Head of State’s property occurred almost simultaneously with an attack on opposition leader Odinga’s gas company Spectre, prompting accusations of a coordinated plot against the two Azimio opposition coalition leaders.
No one has been arrested in connection with the incident more than two months later.
