CS Kindiki Issues Tough Warning To ‘Cultists’ Hiding Behind Religion

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has issued a warning to rogue preachers, saying they will face the law.

Speaking during a church service in Kirinyaga County on Sunday, Kindiki said that the Government will not back down on the resolve to weed out all rogue preachers who are using the Holy scriptures to mislead, radicalise, and indoctrinate their followers.

“We will never see something like that. Just the way we handle criminals hiding under Islam, we will equally deal with those hiding under Christianity. So that they do not stain the church,” said the Interior minister.

According to Kindiki, the operation on criminals hiding behind religion is not a war against any faith or institution

Kindiki added that the third phase of the exhumation exercise in Shakahola forest, Kilifi County will begin on Monday, June 5.

“Unfortunately, there are 22 mass graves that could contain multiple bodies. The search and rescue efforts continue uninterrupted with the multi-agency security team on the ground supported by aerial surveillance.”

The exercise will kick off after a two-week hiatus, which was meant to allow pathologists to conduct post-mortem examinations on the 129 bodies that were exhumed in the second phase of the exercise.

“We have lost many people, we have exhumed 242 bodies so far, of people who were starved to death, hit with blunt and sharp objects or strangled,” he added.

At the same time, Kindiki said the security sector respects diversity of opinion on policy and political issues.

“However, the Government will not allow violent protests that culminate in looting, destruction of property, injuries on civilians and police officers, or loss of lives in the guise of expressing divergent opinion.”
