Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki expressed condolences to the family of former Antubetwe Kiongo Ward MCA George Kaliunga, who was killed in a banditry attack in Meru County on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the ex-MCA had accompanied some residents, NPR officers, chiefs, and police officers from Kinna police post to pursue over 80 goats that had been stolen that night.
Kaliunga was allegedly shot in the chest by bandits during a fire exchange between the bandits and officers who were accompanying him.
According to Igembe North OCPD William Letting, the bandits were driving the stolen livestock toward Kinna in Isiolo.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, CS Kindiki ordered that the matter be investigated as soon as possible in order to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Investigations are underway to identify the killers and recover the stolen livestock. More security officers have been deployed to contain cases of insecurity in Meru North region,” he said.
