CS Kindiki: Shakahola Victims Refusing To Eat While In Hospital

The death toll from the Shakahola cult is currently 241, with 5 of them being skeletons exhumed from the vast Shakahola forest.

This comes as the second phase of autopsies for 129 bodies begins today, with the bodies being moved to another temporary mortuary.

91 people were rescued from the 800-acre forest, but the CS noted that some of those rescued were refusing to eat while in hospital.

“Some of the victims have been resisting to eat while in hospital while one other person died while in hospital,” the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kithure Kindiki said.

According to CS Kindiki, Phase 3 of exhumation will begin after the 129 autopsies are conducted. “We will not leave any body behind and the government will not hide any information.”

According to the CS, law enforcement officers deployed for search and rescue efforts believe there are more people in the forest, with some of the victims intercepted as they attempted to flee the ranch and headed to other areas such as Galana and Tsavo Park.

Kindiki added that they are still unsure what the courts will say, and that investigations will take a little longer as cases of genocide and crimes against humanity take years to prove.

“It takes years to prove cases of genocide and crimes against humanity but we want to ensure that security agencies will provide water tight case.”

Meanwhile, Chakama remains unbound, and curfew measures have been extended for another 30 days.
