CS Kuria Meets US Trade Representative, Ambassador Katherine Tai

Trade, Investment and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria on Tuesday met with the US Trade representative Katherine Tai and her deputy, Ambassador Sarah Bianchi ahead of the US-Africa Leaders Summit.

According to Kuria, they discussed plans to begin expert engagements on expanding bilateral trade and inclusion of women and youth in trade, supporting micro, small and medium enterprises as well as advancing the African Continental Free Trade integration.

“We also discussed expectations from the AGOA ministerial meeting that Ambassador Tai will be hosting later today with counterparts from AGOA beneficiary countries, senior officials of African regional economic institutions and members of Congress,” he added.

The US-Africa Leaders Summit will take place from December 13 to 15 and will be attended by several leaders including President William Ruto.

The summit provides an opportunity for African leaders to shape the continent’s partnership with the United States in trade, economics, security, and politics.

The President will advocate for the signing of the Kenya Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreement and will work with African countries to expand US-Africa trade relations through the renewal of AGOA.

Ruto will also make a statement on “The Future of Africa’s Trade and Investment Relations with the United States” and address the summit on collaborating in Agenda 2063 to create a peaceful and secure Africa.
