CS Lands Alice Wahome Receives Land Policy Recommendations

The National Land Commission, chaired by Mr. Gershom Otachi and CEO Ms. Kabale Tache Arero, presented land policy proposals to Cabinet Secretary Hon. Alice Wahome and Principal Secretary Hon. Nixon Korir in the presence of NLC Commissioners.

The National Land Policy, 2023, will be reviewed and developed based on these proposals.

There has been a National Land Policy, Sessional Paper No. 3 of 2009. It has been directing the nation towards a land use that is equitable, sustainable, and efficient. But because it is a dynamic document, the Policy must be reviewed every ten years to reflect new developments and current dynamics in the land sector.

The National Land Policy will be reviewed and developed under the direction of the Ministry, but consultation and participation will be encouraged throughout the formation process.

In order to strengthen the commission’s recommendations, the Ministry will also keep up its close collaboration with stakeholders, particularly the National Land Commission, Development Partners, Civil Society, Academia, Professional Bodies, Non-State Actors, and other important stakeholders.

By the conclusion of this fiscal year, the Ministry hopes to have finished the policy review and development process. Public involvement, submission to the Cabinet for approval, and submission to the Parliament for discussion are all part of this.
