Parents, educationists and students are set to face one of their toughest years, as Kenya prepares to hold multiple national examinations.
For Grade Six learners in primary schools, there will be two Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) tests and a Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) in 2022.
The last cohort of 8-4-4 students will appear for KCPE exams in March 2022, with the final group of 8-4-4 students sitting for exams in December once the new system is in place.
Meanwhile, at secondary schools, students in Form Four will take the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam in March 2022, while those in Form Three will take the exam in December of the same year.
Education CS Prof. George Magoha has called on all stakeholders including parents to cooperate in fulfilling the transition.
“I implore you to do all in your power to fulfil your responsibilities as Centre Managers for two KCPE and one Grade Six examination. We expect you to deliver as you have in the past ” Magoha stated.
The CS made the remarks at the 17th annual delegates conference of the Kenya Primary School Headteachers Association (KEPSHA) in Mombasa.
Teachers also expressed concern that the state’s bloated budget, which is being used to prepare for elections, could exacerbate the delay in disbursing monies to schools.
The CS, on the other hand, stated that monies for the operation of public schools across the country will be released next week. He claimed he had expressed his issue to Ukur Yatani, the Treasury Cabinet Secretary.
He stated that the second round of funding for desks would be distributed to all primary schools.
