CS Murkomen Hails Haiti Mission as a Success as 230 Officers Return Home

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen today welcomed home 230 officers who have successfully completed their deployment under the Multinational Security Support Mission, now operating as the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), in Haiti.

The reception was held at the National Police College, Embakasi A Campus, in the presence of senior security officials.

Speaking during the ceremony, CS Murkomen described the mission as a resounding success, noting that Kenya’s police officers had earned recognition both locally and internationally for their professionalism and dedication.

“This chapter of Kenya’s contribution to international security began in June 2024, when H.E. Kithure Kindiki, then Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, entrusted these officers with a mission that demanded skill and courage,” he said.

He praised the returning officers for their discipline, integrity, and respect for the dignity of the people they served, emphasizing that their conduct reflected the high standards of training and values upheld by the National Police Service.

CS Murkomen also paid tribute to the three officers who lost their lives during the mission, offering condolences to their families and reaffirming government support.

The ceremony coincided with the departure of another contingent of 230 officers from various National Police Service formations to Haiti, reinforcing teams already on the ground as part of the GSF.

CS Murkomen underscored that this continued presence aligns with President William Ruto’s commitment to ensure Kenya’s transition in Haiti is well-organized and responsible.

CS Murkomen was accompanied by National Security Advisor Dr. Monica Juma, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, DIG (APS) Gilbert Masengeli, and other senior officials who participated in honoring the returning officers for their exemplary service.

The successful completion of the mission highlights Kenya’s growing role in international peacekeeping and underscores the professionalism, courage, and commitment of its security personnel on the global stage.
