A major milestone for Kenya was achieved as the Cabinet Secretary for Health Nakhumicha inaugurated the KEMRI Eldoret Sports Science Research Centre.
The centre holds the potential to develop into a full-fledged anti-doping laboratory, preserving the integrity of sports and athletes’ careers while making a substantial contribution to improving sports health and addressing doping concerns.
Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha emphasised the centre’s ability to establish itself as a leader in sports medicine and anti-doping research, signalling a significant turning point in Kenya’s dedication to a healthy and prosperous athletics industry.
In her remarks, CS Nakhumicha appreciated the Institute for the ground-breaking research it carries out.
“I would like to express my gratitude to KEMRI for consistently demonstrating excellence in research, which holds immense significance for both our local and global needs,” she said.
Hon. Jonathan Bii, the governor of Uasin Gishu, stated that the centre, which is appropriately housed at the City of Champions, should eventually assist in addressing the doping epidemic, which threatens to tarnish sports and the careers of athletes and other athletes in the nation.
Ag DG Prof. Songok emphasised that KEMRI will work to offer a comprehensive platform that supports the excellence of sports teams across their diverse needs.
The centre will also look at other delicate areas of study that pertain to the welfare of athletes.
