The governments of Kenya and Rwanda are committed to achieving the strategic ICT-related objectives set forth in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that was signed between the two countries during President William Ruto’s State visit to Rwanda earlier this year.
The leaders decided to create a working team to aid in the implementation of the MOU at the virtual meeting led by CS Owalo and PS Eng Tanui and their equivalents from Rwanda’s Ministry of ICT and Innovation, Minister Paula Ingabire and PS Yves Iradukunda.
A working group composed of technical teams from both nations was suggested by CS Owalo in order to discuss and decide how to operationalize the MOU.
According to CS Owalo, Kenya is committed to embracing and expanding digital technology across all sectors. It should be noted that the nation is likewise eager to house data centres and data recovery systems within the Konza Technopolis.
PS Tanui said the inked MOU between Kenya and Rwanda covered important action points such as the development of ICT talent, capacity building, digital identity, public infrastructure, cybersecurity, data protection privacy, and ICT Policy and Strategy Formulation.
Other noteworthy topics included the acceptance of emerging technologies, the growth of the innovation ecosystem, smart technologies, ICT R&D, e-government services, local production of smart devices, cross-border trade utilizing e-commerce and digital payments, and mutual data recovery services.
