CS Ruku Condemns Protests, Blames Opposition, and Reaffirms Commitment to Youth Empowerment

Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has strongly condemned the recent Gen Z-led protests, accusing opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, of orchestrating what he termed as “planned terrorism and a trail of destruction” disguised as peaceful demonstrations.

Speaking during a community engagement forum in Mbeere North, Embu County, CS Ruku accused the political opposition of exploiting the youth and undermining national unity for selfish political gain.

“The people of Kenya will not allow individuals with selfish interests to destroy the peace and stability we have worked hard to build,” said Ruku. “You cannot attain leadership by dividing the nation.”

He challenged the opposition to seek power through integrity and democratic processes rather than “divisive rhetoric and political deceit,” and urged young people not to be misled by political actors pursuing power “through the back door.”

“As a father to a young son, I understand what the youth need,” Ruku said. “Let us reason together to solve the nation’s challenges, not through destruction and disorder incited by self-centered leaders.”

The CS commended Mbeere residents for their constructive participation in development discussions and reiterated the government’s commitment to similar engagements across all counties, aimed at fostering cohesion and national unity.

Turning to youth development, Ruku reaffirmed the government’s resolve to address youth unemployment and economic inclusion. He revealed plans to expand and strengthen the National Internship Programme in collaboration with other state agencies to provide young Kenyans with hands-on experience and employment pathways.

“We are committed to ensuring that the youth of this country are not left behind. They are central to our nation’s development,” he said, emphasizing the importance of equipping young people with skills to succeed in a competitive job market.

CS Ruku concluded by urging communities to support youth-centered programs and pledged that his ministry will continue to drive reforms that prioritize inclusion, innovation, and impact at the grassroots level.
