CS Tuya Officially Launches Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies

Today at The University of Nairobi’s Upper Kabete Campus, the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies (WMI) was formally inaugurated under the direction of Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya.

The late Prof. Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan Nobel Laureate, left enormous conservation footprints that continue to serve as a benchmark for our nation’s climate action.

This is where the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change finds inspiration and motivation.

WMI was founded to further the legacy of the 2004 Nobel Prize winner, a renowned environmental and peace scholar and leading climate change campaigner, whose illustrious resume includes becoming the first female professor in East and Central Africa to get a PhD in biology.
