CWG: Kenya’s 3×3 Falls Short In The Quarterfinals

Despite a promising start to the game, the women's squad fell short of the expertise of the English home girls.

Kenya’s 3×3 basketball teams were unsuccessful in the quarterfinals; while the men’s team fell to Australia 20-15, while the women’s team fell to home girls England 21-12.

The men’s team was unfortunate to lose, particularly after putting up a valiant showing, only faltering in the final 12 minute and 30 seconds of play as the Australians advanced to the semi-finals.

The Kenyans took a 4-0 lead thanks to three-pointers from Larry Shavanga and Faheem Juma, but Australia fought back to tie the game at four.

With 4:57 left to play, Australia called a timeout after Kenya stretched its lead to 9-6 with strong defensive plays under the basket.

Australia successfully recovered from the Kenyan boys’ nervous shooting and increased their lead to 17-14 by taking advantage of the free-throw line after Kenya finished off their fouls. Jesse Wagstaff scored twice to increase the margin of victory.

From that point on, the Australian team maintained good board control and shot nearly perfectly to secure the victory.

Kenya’s leading scorer with six points was George Omondi.
