Daadab Member of Parliament Farah Maalim has presented himself to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) for interrogation.
In a statement by NCIC on Tuesday, July 16, Maalim was recording a statement after the commission summoned him over his controversial remarks on the recent anti-government protests.
According to the NCIC, the lawmaker’s remarks had the potential to incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence or discrimination.
“Hon. Farah Maalim is currently recording a statement in honor of the earlier summon issued by the Commission. The utterances are likely to incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence or discrimination, and affect harmonious coexistence between groups of different political affiliations in Kenya, contrary to Section 13 (1) (a) of the NCI Act,” NCIC stated.
The commission is investigating the MP’s comments in Somali about the Gen Z demonstrations against Finance Bill 2024, where he openly said that if he were Kenya’s president, he would have exterminated them in their thousands.
“God forbid if I was president, I would have slaughtered them, 5,000 of them daily. Serious, there is no two ways about it,” said the Daadab MP.
However, he later claimed that the video was doctored.
Maalim was ordered to appear before the commission’s offices on Thursday, July 11, at 11:00 a.m.
However, NCIC disclosed on July 11 that the lawmaker requested to appear before the commission on July 15 due to unavoidable circumstances.
