Dan Bongino to Step Down as FBI Deputy Director

Dan Bongino Announces Departure from FBI Deputy Director Role

Dan Bongino announced Wednesday that he will step down from his position as Deputy Director of the FBI in January. He was appointed to the role by President Donald Trump in February.

In a post on X, Bongino thanked President Trump, the FBI Director, and the Attorney General “for the opportunity to serve with purpose.” The announcement followed remarks from Trump earlier in the day, who stated the former podcast host “did a great job” in office and “wants to go back to his show.”

FBI Director Christopher Wray acknowledged Bongino’s service in a brief post on X, writing, “Americans are safer” because of his contributions.

Bongino’s background includes service as a New York City police officer and a U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to protect President Barack Obama. In recent years, he built a large media following through his podcast and commentary before his appointment to the FBI’s second-highest post.
