On Sunday, July 7, traditionally celebrated as ‘SabaSaba’ in honour of the second-liberation fighters, thousands of Kenyans gathered at Uhuru Park, each bringing a Kenyan flag to pay tribute to the over 40 protesters killed by police.

The Shujaaz Concert saw some of Kenya’s biggest music stars take the stage, including Khaligraph Jones, Nameless, Octopizzo, and Juliani.

Eric Wainaina’s poignant song “Daima” moved the crowd, as thousands of concert-goers sang along word by word, with fists raised high in a sombre show of unity and defiance.
