Mr Daniel Musyoka, the Returning Officer for the Embakasi East constituency of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has gone missing.
The statement was made Friday night at the Bomas of Kenya during the Presidential election results verification process by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
Mr Chebukati stated that Mr Musyoka went missing at 9 a.m. on Thursday at the city’s East Africa School of Aviation, where the presidential election results from the Embakasi East constituency were being tallied.
Mr Musyoka, according to Mr Chebukati, left his house and was accompanied to the tallying center by his official protection.
He did, however, leave the tallying center to make a phone call and did not return.
The incident was reported to the commission, who notified the police.
“His family is looking for him but cannot find him,” Mr Chebukati, who is the National Returning Officer (NRO) for the presidential election, said.
“The commission is deeply concerned with the matter and urges the investigative agencies to get to the root cause of the disappearance,” the IEBC chairman added.
The motive of his disappearance is a matter for the police to unearth, but Mr Chebukati assured that all is well and that Mr Musyoka’s duties have been taken over by his deputy.
