Lawyer Omari Threatens To Sue Ichung’wah

Danstan Omari, a lawyer, has threatened to sue National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah over an alleged defamatory tweet.

The tweet was initiated by Omari’s previous interview with NTV where he blamed President William Ruto’s administration, notably Ichung’wah, for what he called persecution of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We have a new regime that wants to drag Uhuru Kenyatta into court, and as lawyers, we’ll make money defending him, but what will the impact be?” The former president wields considerable power on a worldwide scale…” Globally, Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta control 80% of the networks,” stated Omari during the February 1, 2023 interview.

“William Ruto is a local President, and Ichung’wah is only known up to Kikuyu Constituency…we’re dealing with a new war that Kenya Kwanza could have avoided.” proceeded Omari.

Hon. Ichung’wah however did not take the remarks lying down, firing back at the lawyer in a quoted retweet.

He hit back saying: “Phewl At least am known in Kikuyu by my people unlike the fake media-based liar only known along Koinange Street!”

In a letter sent by his lawyer, Brian Mabeya, Omari described the answer as defamatory and intended to paint him negatively.

“The import of your impugned tweet was to portray our client as a person of loose morals, a person who keeps the company of prostitutes and an immoral person, never mind the fact that our client is an advocate of several years standing and has been a lecturer of law,” wrote lawyer Mabeya.

“He is also a father and a married man, and a known commentator on various public issues on media. Your tweet was therefore calculated to injure the image and character of our client in the eyes of the public.”

Mabeya further added: “It is our demand therefore that you retract the offensive tweet and apologize to our client within seven days (7 days) of the service of this letter, failure to which we will have no option but to seek legal succour without any further reference to yourself and/or associates.”
