The Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) has moved swiftly to quash a widely circulated fake letter that purported to show the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had fired Eugene Wamalwa as its leader. The party has officially flagged the document as a forgery, insisting no such emergency meeting was convened and no leadership changes were made.
The fabricated letter, which spread across social media, alleged that Wamalwa was replaced by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya as party leader, with Ayub Savula as his deputy. The document also featured a forged signature of Seth Panyako.
In a strong rebuttal, DAP-K reiterated that its leadership structure remains unchanged and condemned the dissemination of falsified documents as a malicious attempt to create confusion and sow discord within the party’s ranks.
Echoing the party’s sentiment, Governor George Natembeya dismissed the letter as a politically motivated smear campaign. He directly accused members of the ruling UDA party of orchestrating the hoax to destabilize DAP-K ahead of the upcoming Malava parliamentary by-election.
“This letter is being circulated by UDA members who already know we are on the verge of winning the Malava seat. It is a calculated attempt to create confusion and distract our people,” Natembeya stated, urging supporters to ignore the misinformation and remain focused on the campaign.
