DCI Acts Following the Recovery of Six Bombs From Lake Victoria

According to DCI, the fishermen were going about their nightly routine when they came across the heavy load. The fishermen dragged the load to shore, assuming it was omena.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Mbita, Homa Bay, intervened after fishermen recovered six motor bombs from Lake Victoria.

According to DCI, the fishermen were going about their nightly routine when they came across the heavy load. The fishermen dragged the load to shore, assuming it was omena.

The fishermen panicked and fled while attempting to unpack their nets. Following the discovery of the bombs, some people jumped into the lake.

The fishermen later reported the incident to the beach management chairman, who forwarded the matter to DCI detectives in the area.

“The 80mm bombs were kept in safe custody at the Mbita Subcounty Police Headquarters, awaiting disposal by Bomb Disposal and Hazardous Materials detectives based in Kisumu city,” DCI detailed.

DCI also revealed that fishermen who dove into the hippo-infested waters were safely brought back to shore by other boats before the mammals attacked.

After a fishing trip in 2021, fishermen from Ngodhe Island discovered five bombs in the lake. The police were also given the explosives for safekeeping.

Furthermore, fishermen from Rusinga Island 2021, also stumbled upon six motor bombs in a metallic box that contained fish-shaped explosives.
