DCI and KRA seizes 7500 litres of ethanol

Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) and Kenya Revenue Authority(KRA) detectives have seized 7,500 litres of ethanol worth millions at Sultan Hamud, Makueni County.

In a statement by KRA the ethanol had been concealed in a 10,000litres water tanker.

However, after examination the tanker was found to be carrying 2500litres of water in an outer compartment while the second concealed compartment contained ethanol.

KRA stated that the ethanol had an approximate tax value of over 2million.

The truck driver has been arrested awaiting arraignment alongside tge truck owner.The DCI is also carrying out investigations to apprehend the beneficial owners and smugglers of the ethanol.

In 2015 KRA introduced procedures to govern access, purchase and importation of ethanol to ensure that the government combats illicit productions and consumption of spirit based beverages under the Customs and Excise Act.
