The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed details of how a notorious drink-spiker targeted unsuspecting long-distance travellers.
In a statement on Tuesday, September 23, the DCI accused the suspect, identified as Abdallah Suleiman alias Asuu, of drugging passengers on buses headed to various destinations before robbing them of money and valuables.
According to the DCI, the suspect had been on their radar for an extended period, with numerous cases reported at Mombasa Central Police Station.
“Mombasa Urban detectives have finally taken into custody Abdallah Suleiman, aka Asuu, a notorious drink-spiker who has been on the police radar for a while.
“Detectives have been on his trail after a series of stupefying and stealing cases were reported at Mombasa Central Police Station,” the statement read.
The agency further revealed the suspect’s calculated method of preying on travellers.
“Asuu is the mastermind behind drugging unsuspecting passengers travelling to Mombasa, Kisumu, Tanzania and beyond, then robbing them of their hard-earned cash and valuables while they snooze,” the statement added.
According to the DCI, Asuu’s arrest was made during a routine operation at the Mariakani Weighbridge where he was found in possession of items believed to have been used in his criminal activities.
“But his luck ran out at the Mariakani Weighbridge, where sharp-eyed detectives boarded a Nairobi-bound bus and ended his drugged-up heist spree.
“Inside his bag of tricks, detectives found Lorivan 2 tablets, soft drinks, and snacks believed to be laced with sedatives, all ready for his next unsuspecting victims,” the statement concluded.
The suspect is currently in police custody as detectives conclude investigations ahead of his arraignment.
