The upgraded Children’s Act 2022, an upgrade to the current law that has been in effect for the past 20 years, will be put into effect by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

The Director of Criminal Investigations, Mr. Mohammed Amin, provided this guarantee at the 2nd Annual Child Justice Summit’s opening ceremony, which took place in a city hotel.

The DCI Chief assured attendees during the closing remarks of the two-day summit held by the National Council on Administration of Justice that the Directorate was prepared to put the new Act into practice and that the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit would play a leading role in doing so. The new Act is a progressive law aimed at reducing the rising number of crimes against children.

“Our mandate as the country’s foremost investigative agency is to ensure that we enforce all laws including those pertaining to the protection of our children, a call of duty that we shall continue to execute without prejudice,” said Amin.

The Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court, Lady Justice Martha Koome, spoke at the summit on behalf of the judiciary and urged attendees to ensure the equality and inclusion of all children, noting that the Children’s Act 2022 was the first law to be created by actively soliciting the opinions of children.

The chief justice thanked all the participants for their collaboration and cooperation and urged them to ensure the equality and inclusion of all children, noting that the Judiciary had implemented the Child Justice Strategy, a procedure that will ensure that each child receives justice in the quickest time possible.

Different parties involved in the criminal justice system as well as other pertinent organizations, such as the Council of Governors, the Directorate of Children’s Service, the Witness Protection Agency, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Legal Resource Foundation, the International Development Law Organization, and the United Nations Children’s Fund, among others, were present at the two-day summit organized by the National Council on Administration of Justice.
