Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin is expected to appear in person before the High Court at 11 a.m. today to explain the disappearance of lawyer and blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia, who has been missing since June 21.
The summons follows a directive issued on Tuesday by High Court Judge Chacha Mwita, who expressed grave concern over the state’s handling of the case. Justice Mwita noted that detectives were reportedly the last people seen at Kinyagia’s home in Kinoo prior to his disappearance.
In his ruling, the judge stated that the DCI must take full responsibility for disclosing Kinyagia’s whereabouts and ordered that he be produced in court “dead or alive.”
Kinyagia, known for his outspoken social media posts, is reportedly under investigation for allegedly publishing inflammatory content online. However, the DCI insists that he is not in the custody of the National Police Service (NPS).
“Wherever he is, I urge him to submit himself to the nearest police station,” Amin stated, denying any involvement in his disappearance.
The case has stirred public outcry and renewed scrutiny over alleged enforced disappearances in the country. Human rights groups have called for an independent investigation to establish the truth behind Kinyagia’s fate.
