DCI Forensic Expert In ICU After Attack By Armed Gang

A forensic expert based at DCI’s Forensic Fingerprint Identification Bureau is fighting for his life at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital after he was attacked by armed gangsters Friday morning at Kahawa West in Nairobi.

According to DCI, Joseph Mwange, was headed home in his vehicle accompanied by his wife from a party in Roysambu at around 4 am.

“A four-man gang accosted them along Kamiti road, close to Jacaranda estate,” DCI said.

The agency stated that the suspects who were posing as police officers flagged down Mwange’s vehicle and inquired where he was heading.

In response, the DCI said the victim informed them that he was headed home, not far from where he had been stopped.

The attackers however trailed the victim and attacked him as he opened the gate to his home.

“Unknown to the detective, the thugs trailed his vehicle and as he stopped to open the gate to his home in Maziwa estate, one of them opened fire and shot him before escaping into darkness,” DCI said.

The victim’s wife rushed him to the hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition.

A contingent of agents from three specialized units had since been dispatched to pursue the armed gangsters.

“We are deeply saddened by this attack on one of our own and our thoughts and prayers are with detective Mwange and his loved ones during this difficult time,” said DCI in a statement.

“We assure the public that we will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrators to justice and hope for a speedy recovery for detective Mwange,” the statement read in part.
