The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has gone international following the invitation of Forensic Ballistic Experts to unravel the firearms mysteries in Seychelles.
This is after local authorities in the archipelagic island country consisting of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, arrested a suspect with a cache of different types of firearms and an assortment of over 35,000 different calibers of ammunition.
Following the recovery, experts were invited to examine the cache forensically in order to ascertain the place of origin, manufacturer, make, type, and whether the firearms had already been used to commit crimes, according to a DCI statement.
“On a request from the Government of Seychelles, experts are drawn from our Forensic Ballistics lab and the Bomb Disposal & Hazardous materials unit are currently in Seychelles on an international assignment,” read part of the statement.
According to the DCI, experienced firearm examiners with local and international qualifications began the exercise immediately by documenting all firearms and ammunition.
The sleuths are currently evaluating the firearms before going home to perform a comprehensive inspection at the ballistics lab and write a detailed report to be turned over to Seychelles authorities, according to the DCI.
