A 57-year-old pastor at a Kabete Anglican Church is lucky to be alive after he was rescued from an armed gang that had taken him hostage last night.
The clergyman John Dinguri Chege, was hijacked at 8pm by four armed men, as he drove home in his vehicle.
After taking control of the vehicle, the gangsters commandeered it towards Kiamumbi, in Kiambu county. When Police officers got wind of the incident, they immediately pursued the suspects while a separate team laid an ambush along Kamiti road.
The van was finally intercepted some meters past Jacaranda in a well-executed strategy to save the man of the cloth from the teeth of the savage gang. The accused were told to surrender, but they refused, resulting in a gunfight in which two of the thugs were killed.
Two additional suspects with gunshot wounds managed to flee in the middle of the night, leaving the extremely shaken Church Minister in the hands of our officers.
Suspects were found with a knife and a Smith & Wesson revolver loaded with two 9mm rounds.
