DCI Recovers Rifles Linked to Killing of Three NPR Officers in Isiolo

A joint operation led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has recovered two AK-47 rifles believed to have been used in the killing of three National Police Reservists (NPR) in Isiolo North Sub-County, Isiolo County.

The operation, which involved DCI’s Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) team and General Service Unit (GSU) officers stationed in Kipsing, uncovered the firearms with empty magazines. Authorities believe the rifles were used in the fatal shooting of the NPR officers, originally from Igembe North, Meru County, on April 7, 2025.

In a statement, the DCI credited the breakthrough to collaboration between elite law enforcement units, local administration, DCI officers from Igembe North, and members of the public.

“This breakthrough was made possible through collaboration between our elite teams, members of the public, the local administration, and DCI Igembe North who has taken over investigations,” DCI said.

The brutal attack by armed raiders sparked an intense manhunt in the region, with security forces ramping up efforts to track down those responsible.

The DCI added that further details would be shared once ongoing investigations are complete.

The killing of the NPR officers had drawn widespread condemnation, highlighting ongoing security concerns in parts of Isiolo and neighbouring counties. Authorities have pledged to bolster security measures and ensure that those responsible for the attacks are brought to justice.

Investigators are expected to provide more updates as the case progresses.
