DCI Summons Rigathi Gachagua Over Assassination Claims

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has officially summoned Rigathi Gachagua, the impeached Deputy President of Kenya, over alarming allegations he made regarding multiple assassination attempts on his life.

The summons were issued following Gachagua’s press conference on Sunday, shortly after he was discharged from the Karen Hospital in Nairobi.

Speaking to reporters, Gachagua recounted two purported attempts on his life, stating that undercover police agents allegedly entered his room in Kisumu on August 30 and attempted to poison his food.

“I don’t feel safe,” he declared. “We were able to detect the poison and escape.”

He further alleged that another attempt occurred on September 3 in Nyeri, involving officers from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) attempting to poison food meant for him and Kikuyu elders.

In response to Gachagua’s shocking claims, the DCI emphasized the seriousness of the allegations from a public figure of his standing.

The agency has requested that Gachagua appear at its Nairobi headquarters on Tuesday to provide a statement as part of an investigative process it promised to handle with utmost sensitivity and diligence.

Gachagua did not hold back in his accusations against President William Ruto, expressing feelings of betrayal and shock at the alleged hostility from a leader he claims to have helped ascend to the presidency. “If anything happens to me or my family, President Ruto must be held to account,” he stated ominously.

President Ruto has remained silent regarding both Gachagua’s impeachment and the allegations made against him. Following Gachagua’s ouster, Kithure Kindiki has been nominated as the new Deputy President, although his swearing-in has been temporarily halted by ongoing legal challenges.
