The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned five top Wiper officials on suspicion of submitting false documents to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to justify a change in party lists (IEBC).
Chirau Ali Mwakwere, Secretary-General Shakilla Abdalla, and Agatha Solitei, chairperson of the party’s elections board, are among those summoned. Others include Roy Ombasa, the party’s ICT director, and Abdulla Gakurya.
According to reports, the party had submitted Abubakar Ahmed Talib as its parliamentary nominee.
Wiper, on the other hand, was replaced by Lucas Mulinge Wambua in the revised changes.
Talib, on the other hand, challenged the changes, filing a police complaint alleging that his name was wrongfully removed from the list due to false affidavits presented to justify the changes.
After questions were raised about Wambua’s eligibility to represent an ethnic minority in Parliament, the DCI summoned the top officials.
DCI officers with knowledge of the situation are looking into the possibility of false swearing involving party officials, which is a violation of Section 114 of the penal code.
The DCI officer in charge of the Kilimani division, Stephen Ole Tanki, stated that officials who do not comply with the summons face arrest.
Talib challenged the party changes both before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) and in court.
He saw mischief in the situation and directed the DCI to look into it.
