DCP Refutes Reports of Candidate Withdrawal in Malava By-Election

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has strongly dismissed claims that its Malava parliamentary by-election candidate, Edgar Busiega, has pulled out of the race.

In an official statement released on Sunday, the party described the reports as false and misleading, urging voters to disregard what it termed as propaganda aimed at derailing its campaign.

“The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) wishes to inform the public that the reports circulating claiming our candidate for the Malava Parliamentary race, Edgar Busiega, has withdrawn are false and misleading,” read the statement signed by DCP Secretary General Hezron Obaga.

The party linked the rumours to political opponents, accusing them of spreading disinformation out of fear of Busiega’s rising popularity in the constituency.

“These claims are the result of panic by our competitors, who have sensed defeat in the face of the growing popularity of our candidate,” Obaga added.

According to the party, Busiega remains firmly in the contest, with DCP expressing confidence of victory in the scheduled election.

“Edgar Busiega remains firmly in the race, and we are confident of victory come 27th November 2027,” the statement emphasised.

DCP further called on its supporters and the people of Malava to remain focused and not be swayed by the rumours.

“We urge our supporters and the people of Malava to ignore propaganda and remain focused on the journey ahead,” Obaga noted.

The Malava by-election has attracted growing attention, with several political parties expected to field candidates in a contest seen as a test of grassroots support ahead of the 2027 general election.

The DCP has positioned Busiega as a strong contender, and the party says its campaign remains on track despite attempts by rivals to discredit its candidate.

The party’s intervention comes amid an increasingly competitive political environment in Kakamega County, where Malava constituency has often been viewed as a political battleground.

As campaigns continue to take shape, DCP’s dismissal of the withdrawal claims is intended to reassure its supporters that Busiega is still in the running and to refocus attention on the upcoming election.
