Dennis Itumbi Protests Arrest of Raila-Diehard Nuru Okanga, Offers Him a Lawyer

Blogger and digital strategist Dennis Itumbi has expressed his displeasure with the alleged arrest of ODM leader Raila Odinga’s diehard pointman, Nuru Okanga.

Taking to his X platform, Itumbi protested the alleged arrest, saying he was ready to offer him a lawyer for the case.

He said no blogger should be arrested for expressing their disgust or perceived offensive comments against President William Ruto.

“I completely disagree with the idea of arresting bloggers for insulting the president. Whoever is doing it should stop that completely. Please, Wakili @W_Kinuthia, if Nuru Okanga agrees, represent him in court at my cost,” he said.

Itumbi insisted that every Kenyan has a right to offend, shock or disturb, adding that the president is also quite busy and not interested in the arrest of his critics.

“I know for a fact that President @WilliamsRuto has serious stuff to do and is NOT interested in such drama and arrests, he does not even know about it. So who exactly is the complainant? Wachaneni na bloggers, wajiexpress! Tafuteni kazi ingine…”

On Thursday afternoon, Okanga was charged with insulting President William Ruto, through his YouTube account.

Okanga appeared before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina where he denied the criminal charge.

Okanga while at the historical Jakarada Grounds on November 20, 2023 is believed to have published insulting words against the President and the Commander in chief of the Defense forces, President Ruto to wit, “Nuru Okanga on fire, Ruto you are very stupid, an idiot, umetoboka akili wewe…” information the accused knew to be false and calculated to discredit the reputation of the president and with intend to provoke a breach of peace.

According to the prosecution, the accused printed the abusive words on 20th November 2023.

Okang’a was, however, freed on a Sh10,000 cash bail ahead of the pre-trial hearing on December 13.
