Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are conducting another autopsy on the body of interior designer Geoffrey Mwathi, also known as Jeff, who died on February 22, 2023, after falling from the 12th floor of Redwood Apartments in Kasarani, Nairobi.
Jeff’s body is being exhumed from his parents’ home in Likia, Njoro sub-county, Nakuru County, and will be autopsied by government pathologist Johansen Oduor.
The homicide detectives are also part of the team involved in the body’s exhumation and new autopsy. Family members will be present for the new postmortem, which will take place in a tent set up at the residence.
Police Chief Japhet Koome previously stated that they discovered inconsistencies in the incident and needed to recover the body to help with their investigation.
Mohamed Amin, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ head, joined the team investigating Jeff’s murder on Tuesday and ordered an exhumation and new autopsy.
Amin went to Roysambu, where Mwathi died, and detectives gathered more evidence to aid in the investigation into his death.
Amin was with homicide detectives who wanted to recreate the scene for further investigation.
He stated that he went to the scene to figure out what happened because there are many unanswered questions about Jeff’s death.
Jeff spent the day before his death with Mugithi singer DJ Fatxo before going to his home at Redwoods apartment.
The singer’s cousin and driver were also present, as were two women.
According to officials, Jeff met the singer hours earlier for an interior design job and was supposed to receive a deposit to begin work that morning.
The case has sparked outrage across the country, with many people demanding justice for Jeff. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations previously dismissed the theory that Jeff committed suicide.
The exhumation and new autopsy of Jeff’s body are expected to provide crucial evidence that will aid detectives in solving the mystery surrounding his death.
