Detectives Recover Counterfeit Alcohol Worth KSh6 Million In Thika

In a crackdown against counterfeit goods, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have recovered another consignment worth KSh5.94 million in Thika, Kiambu County.

Sleuths drawn from the Economic Crimes unit in collaboration with officials from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) conducted a raid at a go down owned by Sunrise Limited in Makongeni on Thursday.

“Two drums of ethanol, 40 cartons of Euro Brandy Gin, 90 cartons of Sambuka vodka, 6 cartons of StarLight Vodka, 160 cartons of Budget Vodka and 49 cartons of Queens vodka all affixed with KRA counterfeit stamps were recovered,” the investigative agency said.

Also impounded was an illegal bottling machine, half a roll of counterfeit KRA stamps, and 36000 pieces of the same.

The drugs were valued at KSh5.94 million with KRA losing KSh2.38 million in revenue collection.

According to DCI, efforts to arrest the owner of the unlicensed business who is believed to be one Joseph Kanja, are at advanced stages.
